There are places in the world that are not just visited – they are felt. For me, Lagos is one such place. Every time I land there, a special energy emerges: vibrant, creative and full of life. Lagos is intense, warm and sometimes chaotic, but also deeply inspiring. It is a city that reminds me of why I once fell in love with skincare beyond the traditional Western perspective.

Beauty West Africa – when the world meets

My visit coincided with Beauty West Africa , a trade show that truly showcased how global the skin and beauty industry has become. During these days, brands, formulators and entrepreneurs from different parts of the world gathered under one roof – from African pioneers to international players with roots in Europe, the US and the Middle East.

What made the fair extra exciting was the breadth. Natural ingredients from West Africa met modern biotechnology, traditional beauty rituals coexisted with innovative formulations, and the conversations were as much about sustainability and culture as they were about results and impact. It was inspiring to see how many brands dare to draw on their local heritage and at the same time speak to a global audience.

Lagos vs Stockholm – two worlds, both at home

The contrast between Lagos and Stockholm is palpable – and that is why it is so valuable. Where Stockholm is quiet, structured and often low-key, Lagos is loud, fast and constantly in motion. In Stockholm we plan ahead; in Lagos things happen here and now. The traffic, the sounds, the smells, the people – everything takes up space.

But there is also something deeply human in that openness. Conversations come easily, curiosity is natural, and creativity flows. For me, it creates space for new thoughts, new perspectives, and new ideas about skin, beauty, and wellness.

A journey that continues

The trip to Lagos and Beauty West Africa was more than just a trade show visit. It was a reminder of why representation, origin and respect for different skin types and traditions are so important in our industry. Being able to move between these worlds – Lagos and Stockholm – gives me both humility and drive to continue building bridges between natural skincare, science and cultural understanding.

And every time I leave Lagos, I know the same thing: I will come back.

I am often asked why I go to Lagos, Nigeria. For me, traveling to Lagos and attending Beauty West Africa is stepping into a larger context. Here, skincare is more than just products and treatments — it is about identity, origin, and respect for different skin types and traditions.

It is also an opportunity to unite structure with creativity, science with tradition, and local stories with global knowledge. It is in that space that Care of Skin continues to take shape — with curiosity, humility, and a deep respect for the diversity of skin.

My visit coincided with Beauty West Africa , an exhibition that truly highlighted how global the beauty and skincare industry has become. Over the course of these days, brands, formulators and entrepreneurs from different parts of the world came together under one roof — from African pioneers to international brands rooted in Europe, the US and the Middle East.

What made the exhibition especially exciting was its diversity. Natural raw materials from West Africa with modern biotechnology; traditional beauty rituals stood alongside innovative formulations. Conversations moved fluidly between sustainability, culture and science. It was inspiring to see so many brands confidently rooted in their local heritage while speaking to a global audience.

Lagos and Stockholm — two very different worlds

The contrast between Lagos and my home city, Stockholm, is striking — and that is precisely what makes it so enriching. Where Stockholm is calm, structured and understated, Lagos is bold, fast-paced and constantly in motion. In Stockholm, we plan carefully; in Lagos, life unfolds in real time. The traffic, the sounds, the scents, the people — everything takes up space.

Yet within this intensity lies something deeply human. Conversations come easily, curiosity is natural and creativity flows freely. For me, this environment creates room for new ideas, fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of skin, beauty and well-being.
